Current Research Topics

Investigation and synthesis of new nanostructured materials including nanowires, nanotubes, nanoparticles, nanostructure embedded composites, polymer nanocomposites, and metal oxides for thermoelectric and photovoltaic energy conversion systems

Measurements of thermal and electrical transport properties of various nanostructures, thin films, and polymer nanocomposites

Investigation of alternative and renewable power generation systems

• Synthesis and characterization of nanocomposite materials for the thermal management of heat dissipating devices and systems

 

Graduate/Undergraduate Research Positions

Those who have strong interest or/and experience in nano/micro-science/engineering/technology are encouraged to contact Dr. Yu.

· Students must have at least one of the following.

           - Strong enthusiasm for nano/micro-science/engineering (Most important)

           - Fabrication and analysis skills of thermoelectric and photovoltaic energy conversion systems

           - Knowledge in solid state physics and nanoscale heat transfer

           - Experience in nanowire/nanotubes/nanobelt synthesis (CVD, PVD, etc) and characterization (TEM, SEM, XRD, AFM)

           - Experience in organic (or polymer) composite synthesis and characterization

           - Microfabrication skills (lithography, etc)

           - Experience in biomedical devices and materials
